# Formula columns

> Compute values from other fields, right in your tables.

A **formula column** computes a value from other fields on the same record — like a spreadsheet
formula — and shows the result in your company or contact table.

## Add a formula column

1. Open **Companies** or **Contacts**. Owners and admins can add columns.
2. Choose **Columns → New formula column**.
3. Name the column, choose its output type, and write the formula, referencing fields with
`field("key")`. Check the preview, then choose **Create column**.

## Fill the values

A formula column does not recompute on its own when the underlying fields change. To fill or refresh
its values, run a [workflow](https://docs.enrik.ai/workflows.md) with a **Run Formula Column** step. The formula is evaluated
directly for each record, without a separate background job.

> [!TIP]
>
> Use formula columns for derived signals — combining size, score, and recency into one at-a-glance
> value — without changing the source fields.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Beta limitations.** The set of supported functions and reference types is expanding during the
> private beta. If a formula references something unsupported, the column surfaces an error instead
> of a value.
